How to Eat a Pomegranate...Easily

It's pomegranate season, and I cannot get enough of these juicy succulent pomegranates!  Here is my how to video on eating pomegranates.  I used to think it was such a task to eat this amazing fruit, but now have gotten it down to a quick process so I can maximize my enjoyment of this yummy fruit :)

Pomegranates are full of antioxidants and nutrients, so it is worth making this a start to your day or your dessert. Enjoy!

The World According to Monsanto

This documentary: The World According to Monsanto is a must watch. An Absolute Must Watch.  It reveals Monsanto's history, product strategy, crop domination and just quite frankly, control over plants.

My family has direct experience with the poisonous power of Roundup.  We have a small garden and wanted to grow corn, a variety of corn that comes from Taiwan 30+ years ago.  We planted the seeds in the ground, and there is a neighboring field that has GMO corn on it that uses Roundup.  We were excited about our variety of corn, especially to taste this traditional variety that we had saved from so long ago.  Our corn stalks grew over the summer, looking strong and tall. At harvest time when all the GMO corn was getting harvested, we had NOTHING TO HARVEST on our corn.  It was like our plants grew but none of the stalks produced corn to pick, not one ear.

Now, this is the power of controlling someone's food.  Monsanto's seed dominates, kills the reproduction of our seed, and we have nothing to eat. What we grow does not produce.  We are left with having to purchase Monsanto's seed, Monsanto's herbicide, Monsanto's fertilizer...and perhaps for so many Americans and people around the world is later, Monsanto's cancer.

Monsanto has developed many GMO crops, as well as rBGH (bovine growth hormone for cows), Agent Orange and many other chemicals used in biotechnology.

Story of How Cosmetics are Made

Personal Care products are becoming an issue for me since I can't seem to find a good eyeliner that says it is natural/organic and follows the rules. This is a great video, although many have seen it, it's still a great reminder.

Dangerous Baby Shampoo

My parents immigrated to the US many years ago, and from the beginning my mom has been leery of artificial colorings, going to McDonald's, yellow colored Kraft Mac & Cheese, fruit punch made with food dyes.  She was even against usual personal care products that most Americans accepted and used on a daily basis (I remember trying to convince her how great Herbal Essences by P&G was).  Her shampoo choice was: Johnson & Johnson's Baby Shampoo and she has been using it for decades now.  In my mind, I just accepted how safe it was since it is made for babies. I mean, wouldn't you assume that what people sell specifically for babies should be safe?!

One would have thought.

It took me so long until now to look at this shampoo label, because in my mind this product is safe and has been accepted as safe for so long.  Now looking at the label, it is the farthest from natural. It is made from chemicals, one after another, except for Water.

NOT NATURAL.

Scary Toothpaste

I have been doing some way overdue cleaning.  Feels great to get rid of so much stuff and really start to organize my surroundings, room, space, office in a new and more productive way.

I used to travel quite a bit for work and pleasure many years ago, and not sure if you do this, but when I travel, I like to collect toiletries, shampoos, toothbrush kits for those just in case times.  These toothbrush kits are great when you find yourself on a majorly delayed flight, lost luggage or get stranded at an airport.

I found one toothbrush kit that has been sitting around for probably 7 years.  And, I found many of these - probably 3-4 kits from various different airlines.  Since I am more and more into healthy and natural, I read the ingredient labels of those who had them, and their ingredients were about the same.  I couldn't believe what I saw - major white rock-like corrosion around the toothpaste tubes.  You can't see it too well in this picture, but literally it looks like a rock formation out of the cap of the tube.  It looks like it had an implosion and the toothpaste was foaming out at one point, and now it has hardened into a rock formation.

The ingredients are chemicals as you can see from the label, and the more I think about this - these chemicals from this toothpaste are not stable over long periods of time, they start to react and cause what looks like corrosion.

Is this what we use to put in our mouths and in our bodies to brush our teeth??  I think it's time to re-evaluate what is in the bathroom!

Real Natural Remedy for Allergies

If you have allergies, I feel for you!  My allergies get really bad in the springtime, usually second week of May.  Some people get them bad right around this time before it gets cold.  I have tried everything over the counter for allergies, and for some reason, NOTHING works.  I have tried Claritin, Sudafed, Nasal Sprays, done an allergy test at the doctor, etc.  The drugs usually get me dried up, don't feel great, maybe it stops the symptoms for about 1 hour, but then after that, the dripping begins again.

I don't just have sniffles and I can pat it down with tissue paper.  I drip like a faucet!  I have itchy eyes and pretty much am useless to do anything since I have to constantly attend to my symptoms.  I have been looking for a natural solution, and think I have now found it.

To fight allergies, eat LOCALLY grown honey.  The key is locally grown to where you live.  The bees will gather the pollen from your surrounding plants into the honey, and bits of pollen act like a natural drug - helping your body build up an immunity to the flower and tree pollen in your local area.  I just discovered this amazing concept for fighting allergies, and it has some amazing affects!

What was a complete surprise in honey adventure is just HOW GOOD real, local honey tastes!!  My first spoonful instantly brought me back to 5th grade...  The taste of the honey was like the honey we used to buy at the grocery store growing up.  My mom would put this honey on grapefruit halves.  Extremely fragrant, extremely smooth.

This honey comes from Naperville, Illinois, and is completely locally harvested from fields in Naperville/Aurora.  I know the main beekeeper so I know that this honey is for sure, local and the real deal.

OMG GMOs!

Just came across this video: Pando House Rock: OMG GMOs!  It's kind of a cute way to share the story on why GMOs were started by big food corporations, but ultimately, GMO crops can't be the solution to solving world hunger.  The nutritional value of GMO crops are just not proven and the results so far as we look across the USA, Americans have access to so much food, yet they are starving for the nutritional value that they need, and obesity is the result from what I am calling the 'GMO starvation'.

This summer, we did a little experiment, and the results were scary.  We tried growing crops by a field that was sprayed with pesticides for the corn on the field.  I have walked through this corn field, and nothing grows on the field except for this pesticide resistant GMO crop.  Not even one tuff of grass - just dirt and corn (the pesticides kill everything else).  We planted some of our precious non-GMO squash seeds a few feet away from the field.  The squash plants started to grow in early summer, but right after the fields got the pesticide, all the squash plants started to grow stunted, none flowered, and none developed fruit.  The squash plant looked like it was dieing from non-natural causes (it didn't look like it was dried out by no water or yellow from no sun).  It looked mutated and stunted.  If this is what pesticides are doing to real, natural plants, then my question is, what is it doing to our bodies??!!  And, think about the GMO crop that seems to thrive with the pesticides, what is it really?!  I can't believe this is what food corporations are calling food.

It's this kind of stuff that gets me riled up.
